Park Chung-hee Haiku

“Sure, this cell’s dank, but

Damn, this economy’s hot!”

Says jailed student.

Today is the 57th anniversary of Park Chung-hee’s coup.

It was weird going into certain South Korean museums, because there was always a noticeable gap in the political history spanning from the end of the Korean War until the Nineties. It’s like the curators decided that if they just didn’t mention the decades of military dictatorship, they didn’t happen.

Sure, his ‘Economic Miracle’ is no small beans, but somehow, I think something similar could have been managed without the oppression. Thus, he was a piece of shit and while we’re on the subject, so’s his daughter.
