Giant-ass cannons –
Cause of and solution for
History’s problems
I ventured a little bit outside of Taipei proper the other day! Wow! I am a True Explorer. So of course, I went to a museum. You can learn more about Fort San Domingo here, but to put it briefly: built by the Spanish in the 1600s, taken over by the Dutch, then the Chinese for a couple of centuries, then used as a British embassy for about a century (minus some years during a certain global scuffle) before being converted into a historical site.
Admission is cheap, the surrounding area is lovely, and like most Taiwanese museums I’ve seen, it’s a damn sight better done than Korean museums. No inappropriate Pirates of the Caribbean music anywhere. Worth a visit. Today? A maritime museum run by Eva Air.
